The big reveal of my new craft studio and home office remodel is finally here!  Welcome!  Come in and look around.

On the left is the home office area.  On the right is the craft studio.  When you walk in the room on both sides you have the lounging area.  I wanted the furniture to be modular and purchased corner sections of the Ikea Soderhamn.  Pushing the two sections together I can easily create a nice, comfy single bed for a guest, or if I’m sick I can rest and watch TV without disturbing my husband.  With the sections pushed together there is still plenty of room to move around to get to the desks. 

During the staging process I knew I wanted to have minimal equipment on the desks.  I’m pretty sure my husband thought I was crazy when I asked him to build me a new computer and make it as small as possible, with a fast processor, and the case must be white.  When you’re a PC user and you want your workspace accessories to be white, there are limited choices, but in the end I like what I found. 

Staying organized and having a neat and tidy desk is important to me.  Clutter and mess stress me out.  The beauty of this design is that it can manage cords easily, they stay organized and out of sight behind the cabinets.  Most of my peripherals are wireless which is great.  You no longer need to have the oversized printer sitting on your desk.  In this space there’s a perfect spot in the hallway for the wireless printer on a cart.  Actually the cart is the Ikea Alex cabinet.  Actually, there are two of these cabinets.  I use the other one for the TV which is not shown in the pictures.  There’s a reason why these cabinets are so popular.  They provide great storage, especially for large sheets of paper.

I haven’t hung anything on the walls.  You’ll learn that about me… that I like to settle in and live in a space before I take a hammer and nails to the walls.  Sometimes I take too long, as most of the rooms in our house don’t have pictures hanging on the walls.  Are you like that?

Here’s the craft studio portion.  There’s plenty of room to play with my Cricut Explore machine, plus it has storage in one of the cabinets so I don’t clutter the space when I decide to get out the sewing machine or work on a large project.   I’m always cutting or measuring something, so the self-healing cutting mat always stays out.

I just christened this side of the room before the holidays.  After the space was completed I landed a new full-time job, dove in focusing on the job and didn’t prioritize being creative.  Lesson learned after this area taunted me, being creative is essential to my well-being, and from now on I plan to spend a lot of time here.  I love this space.

Just a few of my favorite things.  While my decorative painting business was still in operation, I had a small cabinet project that I completed with the help of my blog audience, who voted on a finish for me to complete.  You can read about that project here, but the exciting part was that project made it into Grace Bonney’s ‘Design Sponge at Home’. 

All the drawers offer ample room to be organized.  I’m still in the process of organizing all of my craft supplies.  I have a lot of glitter and the bin I was using was out of control and I couldn’t see my entire supply.  I used an Expand-A-Drawer Spice Organizer and now I can see everything and access it easly.  Who doesn’t love color-coded organization?  When I’m having a bad day, I just open this drawer and it makes it all better. 

I’m still working out the organization for the washi tape, for now this solution works.  With so many storage ideas on Pinterest I’m certain storage for my collection will evolve.  Maybe I’ll choose a solution that hangs on the wall.
